Join the City’s novice Community swim team - The Sharks! Participate in coached workouts designed to build endurance, enhance technique and introduce novice swimmers into the world of swimming. Optional swim meets are held seasonally on weekends.
Participants must be able to complete 100 yards of continuous front crawl stroke with side breathing and 25 yards of breastroke, backstroke and butterfly with correct arm and leg action.

    Priority resident registration (online only):  Wednesday, November 12 (6am) through Tuesday, November 18
Non-resident and walk in registration: Opens Wednesday November 19 (6am) and runs through the season.

Introduction to Water Polo

Ready to try something new in the pool? Join the City of Santa Monica’s Introduction to Water Polo class, a dynamic program designed for novice youth players eager to learn the sport in a fun, supportive environment.

Led by experienced coaches, participants will engage in structured workouts that build endurance, sharpen swim technique, and develop essential water polo skills. From ball handling and passing to game fundamentals, terminology, and competitive strokes — this program sets young swimmers up for success in the world of water polo.

Prerequisites for this class includes: 100 yards of continuous swimming, 25 yards of backstroke, 25 yards of breaststroke, 25 yards of head up front crawl, and a 1:30 minutes of treading water. each player will be evaluated on the first day of the program to ensure each participant has the correct swimming abilities.
